スリランカ中央部に位置するヌワラエリヤは、広大な紅茶のプランテーションに囲まれたとても美しい街です。観光地としても有名で、国内外から多くの方が訪れます。特に4月は、スリランカの花が咲き誇る時期として人気です。

そのヌワラエリヤでは、毎年4月に花のコンテスト『エイプリル ブルーム』が開催されます。（主催：ヌワラエリヤ市議会）
地元の住民のみならず、主要なホテルやゲストハウスなども、毎年このお祭りに向けて花溢れるガーデンを準備するのです。

今年は、約30～40のガーデンがコンテストに参加しました。
コンテスト会場となるのは、各参加者の庭。美しく仕上げられたすべてのガーデンを、審査員が1件ずつ訪問して花のジャッジを行うのです。

コンテスト参加者のガーデンを彩るのは、こんな花々・・・ほんの一例ですが、ご紹介します。

マリーゴールド、ダリア、アスター、ペチュニア、フロックス、向日葵、アルストロメリア、フーシャ、セスバニア、etc.

April Blooms in Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful upcountry scenic town surrounded by endless tea plantations and is known for being a famous touristic destination for both local & foreign people specially in April as Sri Lanka's flowers are in full bloom during this season.

"April Blooms" is an annual summer Floral Contest organized by the Nuwara-Eliya Municipal Council which is held every year in April.
Nuwara Eliya city's residents, leading hotels and guest houses always prepare their flower gardens for the April festivities.

This year around 30 - 40 gardens were judged. The participants arranged their venues beautifully on the 16th, the judges visited all the participating gardens of each property and judged their flowers.
The prize giving was held on the 17th at Victoria Park in Nuwara Eliya.

Some of the flowers that are usually planted by these participating gardens are: Marigold, Dahlia, Aster, Petunia, Phlox, Sunflower, Alstroemeria, Fuchsia & Sesbania etc.
